Honda Manufacturing of Indiana Celebrates as J.D. Power and Associates Brings Honors to Indiana
Wednesday, August 10, 2011GREENSBURG, Ind. – More than 1,300 Honda Manufacturing of Indiana (HMIN) associates today celebrated as representatives of J.D. Power and Associates presented them with the Platinum Plant Quality award, and the award for Highest Ranked Compact Car in Initial Quality in a tie for the Honda Civic which is produced at HMIN. Both awards come from HMIN’s performance rating in the J.D. Power and Associates Initial Quality StudySM (IQS) for 2011. IQS measures new car owners’ satisfaction with automobiles during the first 90 days of purchase. HMIN is one of only three plants around the world to earn the Platinum Plant Quality Award and receives the honor less than three years after the start-up of mass production in October, 2008. HMIN produces both the Civic Sedan and Civic Natural Gas Vehicle at its 2.1 million square foot facility in Greensburg. HMIN President Jun Nishimoto addressed the more than 1,300 Honda associates by saying “This honor as the Platinum Award factory is a testament to the commitment Honda associates make to creating products of the highest quality for our customers.” This year also saw the Honda brand overall earn its best-ever ranking in the J.D. Power and Associates IQS study, finishing second among all surveyed brands, and a higher ranking than any other mass market brand. Honda also led the industry with seven models earning the highest initial quality ranking in their respective segments, including its top-selling Accord and Civic models. HMIN currently operates one shift at the Greensburg plant, producing Honda Civic models. In May, Honda announced that the plant will ramp up production and add a second shift starting Oct. 24. HMIN began operations in 2008 and is the newest of Honda’s fourteen manufacturing facilities in North America.
